Information Commons Dedication, December 7

December 4th, 2007 by Chulin Meng

Can’t wait until the beginning of Spring Semester to catch a glimpse of the new Information Commons? You’ll have an opportunity this coming Friday at the building’s official dedication. While the IC doesn’t open for business until January 14, 2008, the campus community can get its first look at the building’s interior this Friday, December 7th at noon. IC photoThe dedication ceremony will be held on the first floor of the Information Commons near the recently-relocated statue of St. Ignatius and should last around 30 minutes. Featured speakers include Robert Seal, Dean of Libraries; President Garanzini; a major donor; student Akibu Rease; and architect John Leahy of the firm Solomon Cordwell Buenz.

Immediately following the ceremony, attendees can enjoy a reception, take self-guided tours of the new building, and chat with representatives who worked on this ambitious project. You may have many questions to ask, as the IC features some highly advanced technology and building practices. Those of you who are environmentally conscious, take note: the building is expected to be LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) certified by the U. S. Green Building Council.

Check this space next week for coverage of the dedication ceremony! For more information on Information Commons, visit: http://libraries.luc.edu/about/ic/index.htm.
