<p>Carl Smith&#8217;s <em>The Plan of Chicago: Daniel Burnham and the Remaking of the American City</em> on <strong>Thursday, October 22 at 2:00 p.m.</strong> in Rm. 723, Lewis Library, 25 East Pearson, WTC.</p>
<p>Loyola alumna and Chicago Public Librarian, Janette Kopacz will facilitate the discussion.  Mayor Daley described this book as &#8220;essential to understanding our city&#8217;s evolution from prairie, to industrial hub, to the city we know today.&#8221;  </p>

These changes also altered individual lives. Jian Ping, author of Mulberry Child: A Memoir of China will give a personal account of the devastating impact of the Cultural Revolution on individuals. She will also offer an insider’s view on how personal values changes with the economic development, and how the Chinese citizens responded to hosting the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games. </p>
