From Leslie:

Here is how the keys will be distributed the desks:

Keys are there now – JP

Level 1: Supply Room Rm. 115), Classrooms,  Assisted Learning Room (Rm. 119), Library Instruction Classroom (Rm. 120)

Level 2: Classrooms and Group Study Rooms and Group Study Room 224 (Note that the Consultation Office opens with a Group Study Room key – JP)

Level 3: Group Study Rooms

When you need to access the Supply Room, you can pick up the key at the Level 1 desk and return it immediately when finished!!!

Currently these keys are in envelopes so be VERY CAREFUL!!!!!! We have a large key ring on the way for each desk to help ensure the keys don’t get lost. To lose one key will cost thousands of $$$ to rekey the rooms it belongs to.  Do NOT take these keys home or to class with you!

For right now, lost and found items are being placed on the 2nd shelf in the cabinet behind the reference computers. Ross and Leslie are looking into creating a space on level 1 that will become the regular lost & found location.

Wireless printing in the IC is currently set up on all of the laptops that can be borrowed from the Level 2 desk. ITS is working on instructions to provide students with information on how to set up their own laptops for wireless printing.

You can now view the schedule for the IC Seminar Room (room 120, level 1, south west corner) from the cudahyrefgrads GroupWise calendar list.  Librarians will be scheduling classes in both the IC Seminar Room and the Cudahy BI room, so please check both calendars if looking for classes.  Only the librarians can book the IC seminar rooms.  Questions about booking the room for anything other than library instruction can be referred to Jeannette.

Just talked with Nick about the guest logins. Alumni and community guests can request a login from any IT staff at any desk in the IC. (I still need to check what we should do about Cudahy.) Community guest logins are good for 2 hours and will only be given out during the hours we are open to the community. Alumni have a longer login period and can be given a login any time the buildings are open.

What we need to know is to refer requests to the IT staff.

Loyola University Chicago
Community Access Policy

Beginning January 14th, 2008, the Cudahy Library and Klarchek Information Commons at the Lake Shore Campus will welcome guests who are members of the Rogers Park and Edgewater communities. Guests with valid photo IDs are welcome to use the Library and Commons during the following times:

Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Saturday, 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Sunday, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

For more information about available services and resources guests are encouraged to ask at any of the Library or Information Commons Service Desks. Guests who wish to use the Internet may obtain a Guest Network Account at the second floor Information Desk in the Information Commons. The Guest Network Account allows limited access to the computer network and select electronic resources for two hours and may be renewed based on computer availability. Currently, we are unable to provide access to the wireless network to guest users.

Alumni with alumni cards continue to enjoy unrestricted access to all University Libraries, along with access to the computer network, Internet, and select electronic resources. Alumni’s computer access to the network is limited to 24 hours and must be renewed each time they visit the Information Commons or the University Libraries. Alumni should inquire at the 2nd floor Services Desk of the Information Commons to learn more about computer network access and other services for Alumni. Currently, we are unable to provide access to the wireless network to Alumni.

Additional access restrictions may apply during final exams and the period of time preceding final exams.

If you have questions about our policies, please call the Library Administration at (773)508-2620 and we will be happy to answer any of your questions.

We are going to use the same statistics sheet at all of the Information Desks in the IC, and at the Cudahy and Lewis reference desks.  The new sheet includes the extended hours offered at the IC.  We included an option to keep stats for Instant Messaging (IM) questions even though we are not currently providing that service.  However, we are hoping to experiment with it at some point and wanted to have it on the form for when that happens.

The form is available in our Reference folder on the N: drive in the Forms folder.  The file name is 2008_ref_desk_stats_form.doc.
