October 2009

Please keep an eye out for Halloween costumes that have a gun as an accessory! It is very inappropriate for any gun; even if apparently fake, to be brought in the building. I have called campus safety about one student that carried a rifle. Given incidences on other campuses it’s important to be cautious.

Guest Alonzo Williams is now officially banned from the building. Yesterday Alonzo was warned after some complaints about his behavior. This morning an officer told that he felt Alozno was “shopping” (looking for a good opportunity to steal) and that I should call campus safety if he were to come back. Alonzo did come back today and I called campus safety. Several officers arrived and escorted him out of the building at 1:20pm.

On Monday morning, we’ll start our last Resource of the Week for the semester. The flyer and talking points will be in place shortly after 8:00 on Monday morning.

I just learned this part of the policy, thought I would share:

# Group study rooms are not available for functions such as: classes, lectures or seminars.
# Single users may reserve a group study room Sunday-Thursday until 3pm and all day Friday and Saturday. They may be asked to vacate the room for groups of 2 or more studying together outside of these times.

Just a reminder — you do not need to enter stats for Text-a-Librarian or WebChat into LibStats at present. Each maintains its own statistics (like AJCU).

As you know we are short two people this evening (Ted and Mary both out sick – Mary may be in later, but was uncertain).  Because of this we have made the following arrangements for evening coverage:

Josh will stay until 10 p.m. and come in later tomorrow a.m.

(Ross is arranging for student workers to cover the Monitor station in the a.m.)

Josh will make periodic rounds of the 3rd floor this evening as well.

Jared will be here until 12 midnight, per his normal schedule.

Mike Nassar will be the “go to” person from 10 p.m. – 2 a.m., if the IC student workers require assistance.  Mike will also make sure the doors to the IC are closed and locked at 2 a.m. as leaving.

I think that covers everything, but please let me know if we have missed something.  Thank you everyone who is helping out this evening and tomorrow a.m.  It is very much appreciated!

Please make sure that someone is in the reference office when you send patrons over from the IC Reference desk to the office to visit a librarian or Brenda. The new room number is 108b.

Hello,
On behalf of the university libraries, I would like to invite you to join us in a celebration of remembrance for our friend and colleague, Michele Fisher. This memorial is open to the entire university community as well as her family and friends, and will be held in the Information Commons, 4th Floor, on Monday, October 26, at 3 p.m. We hope that many attendees will share their own memories of Michele at that time. Please feel free to forward this to anyone who we may have missed.
Thank you,
Ursula

We have a brand new supply of Lysol wipes for the reference desk and the reference office. The dispenser for the reference desk will be kept in the cabinet and the ones in the reference office will be stored in the regular supply cabinet. Many thanks to Megan who (unknown to Niamh, Jeannette, and myself) has been supplying the desk with sanitation supplies. Please take the opportunity once during your shift to wipe down the desk, phone, and any other item (except the computer screen) that you feel needs a touch up.
