Joyous news for all: the new chair has arrived.  However, the tilt/lock mechanism has yet to be figured out.  Use at your own risk.

Dear Loyolans,

On Monday, May 17, various summer construction activities will commence around the Lake Shore Campus, including a utility re-route project for Damen Hall that requires us to erect a fence around the building. During this time, the only way to access Damen Hall will be via the ramped, northeast entrance. A path to the entrance will start near the south end of the East Quad.

Construction will also continue in the area around the Gentile Center and the new Norville Center for Intercollegiate Athletics. A project near the west side of Crown Center is set to begin as well.

To help you find your way around campus, please visit LUC.edu/construction. On the site, you will find a LSC construction map that details the affected areas, along with three separate maps that specify access areas for Coffey Hall, Crown Center, and the Gentile Center.

This phase one work will continue through Sunday, June 20, 2010. More information about phase two construction and the various access routes will be communicated to you in June. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact the Department of Facilities at 8-2100.

Sincerely,

Kana Wibbenmeyer
Assistant Vice President for Facilities

Starting next week, 5/17, the Access Services department will be moving the DVD collection onto the shelves in the current periodical area to createa browseable DVD collection. During this time, patrons should request DVDs via the AV request forms just as they have done in the past.

FYI from Anne.

You probably recall that there was a big reception in the IC after last year’s Baccalaureate Mass. It was such a success that this year there will be a reception in the IC for graduates and their guests following each commencement ceremony this week and next Saturday. Special Events has coordinated with Leslie to arrange these and Campus Safety will provide extra staff to help at these receptions. I am including the approximate schedule, although starting times will depend on the length of each ceremony.

Last year it was great to see how many parents were impressed by the IC and Library and you may receive questions and compliments as you move through the buildings during these events.

Please let me or Leslie know if you have any questions.

I noticed that some of the lost & found materials are school papers that have names on them. I went ahead and sent an e-mail to these students. If you see this type of material (material with names, but that does not go immediately to the IC supervisor) please contact the owner if contact information is easy to identify. I contacted:

Rachel Christensen
Sandra Montes
David Weber

Thanks,
Jeannette

Don’t forget to turn up the volume on the speakers at the reference desk. I have been finding it turned low or off fairly often when I have come to the desk recently. You cannot hear WebChat notifications if the speakers are not turned up enough to hear them. IC students tend to turn them off after reference hours, so it is important to remember to turn them back on.
